Educational Technology and The Philippines
The rapid development of technology has a great effect in the society and it is observable that the different educational institutions are influenced by technology. A lot of countries in the Asia Pacific region really give value to the integration of technology in education. They really take advantage of the benefits that technology could provide but how about us? Are we contended on the educational norm in our society? Are we not aiming for change that could bring development and positive consequences?
Maybe we are aiming for that but we are not capable enough to achieve that. We want to integrate technology to education but we are not given the opportujnity to do so. There are a lot of creative minds in our country but those minds are not developed due t5o lack of opportunity. Also, there are a lot of Filipinos who aim for the betterment of our society but they are neglected by the officials in charge. It is sad to think that we want change, that we want advancement in our educational system but we lack with opportunity.
Moreover, we might want to integrate technology to education but how can we do that if our current educational system has a lot of unsolved issues and problems. How can we move forward if we are stuck in our current situation? For me, in order to get par with our neighboring countries, I think we should fix what we have right now then try to do better after solving the problems that are in our hands.
Like waht Dale said in his explanation regarding the Cone of Experience, he said that the concrete experiences are the foundation of the abstract ones. Therefore, we should srat first with the things that are concrete before dealing with the things that are abstract. This idea could be related to our aim in integrating technology to education. Yes, it is ideal to have a modernized classroom but how can we do that if there are places where they dont even have a classroom? It is also ideal to have citizens who are computer literate but how can we do that if there are places that have no computer and internet access? I am not saying that we should ignore the call for advancement. What I am saying is that, we must be realistic. It is not wrong to dream for the better but we must take into consideration our capabilities. We must work step by step in order to accomplish and solve all the problems that we have right now. We should start with the concrete ones in order to support our fuiture palns that could lead us to change that we want.
For me, in order to get par with other countries, we do not need to compare waht we have to any country for several reason. First, because they are different from us. Our system might not be the same with the one that they have. Also, our culture and our current situtaion is different that is why we need to compete first with ourselves, with our own selfish interests then with problems that we have inside the country before competing with other countries. We should deal first with the problems regarding lack of funds in education, lack of qualified and competent teachers, and lack of classrooms and other school materials. After dealing with those problems, that is when we take another step towards the change that we want through integrating technology to education.
