WHAT I HAVE LEARNED
There are a lot of topics discussed in EdTech 1 and 2 but of all the things that have been discussed, I think the most valuable learning that I had can neither be discussed in one session, assessed by an exam nor can be written in any text book because the important thing that I have learned is the idea that a person should not be afraid to go beyond the norm. For a person who believes in himself, you should always try to explore your other talents and capabilities. You should always try to become the better version of yourself. You should not limit yourself with the expectations of other people but rather you should keep in mind that if possible, you must overcome or go beyong those expectations and you can only do that if you give your best in every thing that you do. Because of EdTech, I realized that you should not do things for the sake of only doing it but rather do it because you know that it can help you in your development as a student and as a whole person and eventually could also benefit the people around you.
Moreover, what I have learned can also be related to educational technology when applied in a classroom setting. Due to the continuous change in our society and the advancement of technology, educational institutions and its demands also change through time. From a society that lives up mostly the traditional beliefs in education, it changes as non-traditional way of education is being accepted and practiced nowadays. However, not all the teachers are open with this change. Some of them resist that change that could show the advantages given by technology because they only see its disadvantages that for them could only defeat the purpose of teaching and learning. But as a teacher who wants to give the best for his/her students and for the betterment of the educational system of the society, you must not be afarid to go beyond the the traditional approach in education. You should go beyond the norm and try to explore the things that technology could provide in order to improve the teaching and learning process. Furthermore, one of the principles in the use of instructional materials states that if possible, you should use variety of tools. Since technology is continuously developing why not maximize its use. However, this idea of using and maximizing the use of technology can also be harmful if not used appropriately. As a teacher, you should keep in mind that one of the principles in the selection and use of instructional materials states that, the instructional materials chosen must suit the instructional objectives, the demands of the chosen teaching strategies as well as the needs of the learners, that is why the materials must carefully chosen based on its relevance to the instructional objectives and based on the benefits that it could contribute in the teaching-learning process. In addition, integrating technology to education means providing variation to the students. Through the help of technology, varied materials can be provided but those materials must not sacrifice the content of the lesson. The technology is very helpful if it doesn’t defeat the purpose of teaching and learning nor replace the teacher but rather it extends learning and supplements the other instructional materials.
Lastly, after a year of learning the importance of technology, not only the modern technology, I realized that as a teacher, it is your responsibility to bring your student out of the box by using different approaches and different instructional materials that could help in maximizing the teaching and learning process. As a teacher who wants to bring positive change in the lives of young children and to the society, I will not limit myself with the norm but rather dare to be different. Different in a way that I will impart not only my knowledge but everything that I can do which I think could help young children to be the best that they can be.
